David Braden worked as an ordinary seaman, a laborer on the Alaskan pipeline, a cowboy in Venezuela and in many other occupations before attending college. He earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and is the author of seven books. Braden lives with his wife and son in Taichung, Taiwan, where he is an assistant professor at the Overseas Chinese Institute of Technology.
