Children

by Ferdinand Aragon

Artist statement

While studying for my art degree at the University of the Philippines Cebu, I was serving at our church's Children's Ministry. Kids from all corners of the community would gather at the church for the monthly classes. My art "career" starter here, making the decorations. In time, I got to know the children. Many are living in extreme poverty, neglected, and vulnerable to all manner of illegal trades including that of drugs. This is where I realized what I should fight for. For the years of my stay at the University, my art has been primarily about the rights of children, and getting the word out there that these rights are going to continue to be violated unless we do something. This is what I consider as my calling as an artist.
