Meng Lang was born in 1961 in Shanghai. Throughout the 1980s, he was an active participant in various unofficial poetry movements in China. He co-edited A Compendium of Modern Chinese Poerty,1986-1988, published by Tongji University Press in 1988. He moved to the US in 1995 and was Writer in Residence at Brown University from 1995 to 1998. In 2001, he co-founded the Independent Chinese PEN Center. Meng Lang currently lives in Hong Kong and is the founder and principal editor of Morning Bell Press.
