Waking Dream of A Lost Soul

by Alyse Ka Weng Fan

From the casements of my eyes, a butterfly
leapt her white wings into the lilac eventide.
Sang in the breeze, glittered with rainbow dye
In Queen Mab’s feast, trusted love as her guide.
But Time forgets the oath to stay steadfast;
neon signs blind the last beam of twilight.
The enchanted fairy’s song fails to outlast
the city’s din. She fades from the moon’s sight.
The last sparks in my eyes are doused with tears,
the shadow of wings merges into dark void.
My forlorn soul whirls between the spheres
of within and without. Alone, destroyed.
Nothing will last but ashes of emptiness.
I dream again, in this waking dream of nothingness.
